About

Welcome to Travel Titbits. Or Tidbits if you prefer.

Here you will find travel writing that is amusing (hopefully), irreverent (often), offbeat (usually), and insightful (always).

So whats the origin story ...

Pliny the Younger, in a letter to the Roman historian Tacitus, wrote about his famous uncle, who had died mounting a naval rescue mission to Pompeii.

I consider those as truly blessed to whom the divine gift was given either to do things worth writing about or to write things worth reading – but the most blessed of all are those who do both.

Those words spoke to me deeply when I suffered a severe mental illness and breakdown due to burnout at work.

Through the healing process, including several weeks in hospital and years of outpatient recovery, Pliny's words gave me a magnetic north in the wilderness. Eventually, I found a road - the road - and Travel Titbits became the black 1949 Hudson Commodore with which I navigate it.
