Welcome to Travel Titbits. Or Tidbits if you prefer.
Here you will find travel writing that is amusing (hopefully), irreverent (often), offbeat (usually), and insightful (always).
So whats the origin story ...
I won't bore you with the details, but some time ago I suffered a severe mental illness and profound breakdown. My recovery - an ongoing process - involved several weeks in hospital and years of outpatient recovery.
For a long time I was lost. No idea of 'what now?'. No zest for life. No inspiration. Then I read something that rekindled my lost vitality.
The Roman historian Tacitus, asked Pliny the Younger to write about his famous uncle, who died mounting a brave but unsuccessful naval rescue mission during the tragedy at Pompeii. Pliny said the following.
I consider those as truly blessed to whom the divine gift was given either to do things worth writing about or to write things worth reading – but the most blessed of all are those who do both.
Pliny's words spoke to me deeply. They gave me a magnetic north in the wilderness: the idea of a life worth living. Eventually, in that emotional and spiritual badlands, I found a path that became a road - the road - and Travel Titbits became the black 1949 Hudson with which I navigate it. If you know you know!
And whats the goal ...
